Make the perfect butter coffee

Your staple every morning beverage

As always, I was a skeptic when I heard about buttered coffee, that too with coconut oil in it. After a lot of persistence from my keto coach and peers, I caved in. I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that the butter would blend right in.

And now, am I a fan or what? Normally I’d break a fast with either a bone broth or with a buttered coffee. I use ghee instead of butter as it’s the superior form of butter. Well, for those of you who do not know ghee, it’s a cleaner fat, derived through clarifying butter. When you heat unsalted butter for some time, the milk solids in the butter settle to the bottom and burn up, leaving the clean source of fat to bottle up as ghee.

MCT of coconut oil is the ultimate fuel you need in your buttered coffee. Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) are saturated fats that, due to a shorter chain of carbon atoms, digest much faster, and therefore provide a quicker source of energy.  MCT burns easily and is often called the fuel or  elixir for the brain.

Above left: I’m blending my buttered coffee on low straight in my cup. Make sure you only have half a cup when you are blending or you’ll have coffee raining all over your kitchen. Above right: Me wishing I had a transparent cappuccino cup.

Handheld blenders are a blessing too. So this way you don’t have to wash your blender jar several times. I make my buttered coffee straight in my cup, this way, cleaning is much easier a task.

Best results come from blending on low for at least 40 seconds. Drink immediately so that you can enjoy it when it’s still hot. I for one, am not a big fan of tepid coffee.

So why MCT oil? The benefits are not just one or two to mention. So I had to create another blog post to specifically sing praises. It is the number one ingredient in my keto diet that is helping me get rid of the interminable brain fog and enriching my focus and productivity by the day.

Read this article to see why I harp a lot about the great MCT oil.
